The Society for Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (SfNIRS) is the world’s most authoritative academic organization in the field of functional near-infrared spectroscopy brain imaging (fNIRS). It is committed to deciphering the functional properties of biological tissues (with a primary focus on the human brain) using optical approaches, and to fostering academic idea exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and application promotion worldwide.Held every two years, the SfNIRS global conference draws nearly a thousand participants across the globe each edition. It represents the largest and most influential worldwide academic event dedicated to fNIRS research.

Hosted jointly by the University of Macau and Beijing Normal University, fNIRS 2026 (https://fnirs2026.fnirs.org) will take place at the University of Macau from 15 October to 19 October 2026. Apart from a broad spectrum of academic themes, the conference features educational workshops that deliver lectures and hands-on practical sessions covering cutting-edge fNIRS practices on diverse topics.
